Hi, I'm Beth. I started collecting My Little Pony two years ago. Some of my favorite ponies are Mint Dreams, Princess Serena, Princess Taffeta, and Munchy. My favorite Nirvana pony is Nightlight. Since I grew up with Generation 1 ponies I didn't collect other generations until recently. Now I collect ponies of all generations. I also collect Vintage Littlest Pet Shop and Care Bears.
I started MyLittlePonyCollection.info as a comprehensive collector's guide to G1 United States, G1 European Exclusive, and G1 Nirvana, Generation 2 (G2), Generation 3 (G3) and Generation 4 (G4) My Little Ponies. I keep my own personal checklists of all known My Little Ponies. I decided to use this infomation to create a website to help other collectors keep track of their collections. This site is a work in progress for now. Over the next few weeks I will add My Little Pony identification information for all generations of MLP. I am also creating checklists to help collectors keep track of their ponies and accessories.
Generation 1 (G1) My Little Ponies were the orginal ponies created by Hasboro. In most places, they were sold from 1982 through 1992. Though, they were sold in the Netherlands in 1995.
G1 My Little Ponies come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. There were Earth Ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns. Some even had moveable wings! There were also mommy and baby ponies.
As of right now, I have counted over 1400 unique G1 My Little Ponies.
Nirvana is a term My Little Pony collectors use to describe most ponies that were sold outside of the United States and United Kingdom. Most are variation of ponies that were sold in the U.S. and U.K. Many have unique colorings and poses. They were sold all over the world. Often, new ponies are discovered. Recently, Venezuelan My Little Ponies were found. Rare varaints, and error ponies are also considered Nirvana.
Argie Green My Little Pony
Argentina My Little Ponies, or Argies as they are know to collectors are some of the most unique ponies. Most are very brightly colored. They also had different poses than most of their U.S. counterparts. They have Argentina stamped on their hooves.
The Mail Offer Birthflower ponies were recreated and sold in bright colors with different flowers. These ponies were sold in stores in Australia and Scandanavia.
Brazilian My Little Ponies are characterized by shiny bodies and brittle hair. Many are variants of U.S. ponies in different poses. There is also a unique set of Non-So-Soft Brazilian ponies. They have Brazil stamped on their hooves.
Colombian My Little Ponies are also a somewhat recent discovery. They have very soft, almost transparent ponies. They mostly consist of variants of ponies sold in the United States. Many are very brightly colored. There are many different variations of the same pony.
Variations of some of the Year 2 U.S. G1 ponies were made in France. They have "Made in France" printed in a circle on their hooves.
German Nightlight (Large Symbol) My Little Pony
Italian White Tootsie My Little Pony
The most striking characteristic of Italian My Little Ponies is their bright, blue eyes. They have Italy stamped on their hooves. Italian ponies were made from 1983 through 1985. These ponies correspond to U.S. ponies from "Year 2" and "Year 3".
Dutch Baby Schoolbag My Little Pony
Dutch ponies (Dutchies) were the last G1 ponies sold. They were sold in Holland in 1995, almost three years after the U.S. line ended. They were variations of ponies sold earlier in Europe.
Spanish Masquerade My Little Pony
Generation 2 My Little Ponies are characterized by their thin bodies and long, slender necks. They were only available in the U.S. from 1997 through 1998, but they were sold in Europe until 2002
Generation 3 My Little Ponies more closely resembled G1 MLP. Their bodies were less exagerrated than the G2 MLP. Most were about 3.5 inches tall. They came in a wide variety of colors and characters.
Generation 4 is the latest My Little Pony generation. They are much smaller than any previous generation, about 2.5 inches tall. Their release in 2011 coincided with the realease of the Friendship Is Magic (FIM) animated series.
